Seventh area of intervention: promoting our ideas and convincing people of their value Version française

Adapting housing to the needs of the ageing population still conjures up an image of the fitting of equipment inspired by a hospital environment and this perception continues to generate anxiety amongst the elderly and their family. In order to change this image, just as the generational composition of our society is being transformed in silence, then there is a need to promote and to undertake large-scale public action that proposes a confident and dynamic vision of ageing within the context of everyday life spent at home, looking beyond health issues and advertisements that abound with possible adventures for the elderly.

Proposal n° 30 : Place the advantages of the adaption of housing for the elderly in the right perspective, notably with regard to levels of comfort provided by adaptation work: call upon the major home decoration television programmes to give coverage to the issue of the adaptation of housing for the elderly, making use of materials that are widely available at an affordable cost and that guarantee a degree of comfort and of aesthetics that may be shared by people of all ages.
Proposal n° 31 : Promote this form of communication to the general public through the materials used by the major institutions that have already begun to produce thematic publications.
Proposal n° 32 : Promote the capacity to show the elderly (and their families) the results of the different forms of adaptation in a real-life situation: show apartment, show room (support provided to the professionals in the sector by the authorities is a factor of development).

Should promotion of these concepts be the first stage or the conclusion? In any case, this is absolutely necessary in order to ensure that as many people as possible confidently embrace the idea that old age has a future, both from an individual and a collective point of view, with housing as an integral part of our everyday live.
